Notes on a 2011 335i Convertible OEM-look rear view camera install

Customer wants a rear view camera in his 2011 335i Convertible but he wants it as OEM as possible. Unfortunately the E9x did not offer an OEM rear view camera anywhere.

What to do? Well, forum vendor BimmerTech is what to do.

BimmerTech created an OEM-look rear view camera for the E9x that not only is 100% integrated to the CIC Nav but also it is less cost and complexity than the full OEM retrofit and 100% PnP.

Remove OEM trunk liner using trim removal tools:

Insert camera cable via OEM rubber hose using a wire worm:

Layout camera cable via Convertible existing wire loom using OEM cloth tape:

Transfer OEM trunk release handle switch assembly to replacement camera/handle and snap it in:

Run camera cable from trunk to CIC unit via center console (Convertible uses plenty of cable in the trunk to circumvent folding mechanism so center console is the shortest route to the dash, otherwise the cable will not reach):

Inspect BimmerTech PnP harness:

Remove CIC:

Plug PnP harness and transfer any MOST cable to it:

Plug camera cable (power and video) to PnP harness:

BimmerTech codes the CIC and camera is activated when reverse is engaged:

- PDC (if equipped) functionality (front and/or rear) is automatically ported into the new OEM rear view camera screen.

- trunk handle opens trunk exactly as OEM

- camera resolution is excellent no matter the outside lighting

In all, this is a great add-on for the E9x. The benefits of this retrofit while parking are not apparent until you see the rear view for the very first time after installation. This is the kind of option that once you get it you must have it in all your future cars.

Customer left very happy so I'm very happy...

I have a 2011 335i (non convertible) and would love to get this put into my car. Is there a purchase link for this and oh does there happen to exist a YouTube video on how it all works?

I love it.

Never mind. Found it....YouTube.com/watch?=WYUNJzHAXRk
