What's the best screen to leave your center display on?

I don't have navigation. I'm trying to think of what's the best screen to leave the center display on. So far, I've left it on the trip computer. There is shows the average speed and mpg, as well as elapsed miles, which is sort of a trip odometer.

In the past, I've left it on some of the diagnostic screens, so it shows a picture of the car with it's engine or transmission. I've also turned it off completely.

It would be really nice if there were pictures of gauges, particularly the oil pressure, volt meter, coolant temperature, and ammeter. Exhaust temperature is not really needed.

I do have nav, which I usually have on screen.
If I did not, I'd probably have the diagnostics as well...

I like off, but when I turn it off, I invariably need it on for something. I agree that it would be better if it showed something useful when the driver wasn't actively using it.

When not using navigation, I'll usually leave it on the radio presets list or the current playback screen (for CD/HD/external sources). At night I'm just as likely to switch it off altogether. Less often I'll choose onboard info (not the trip computer), though I prefer to put that in the split-screen pane when I'm interested.

I don't have navigation. I usually leave it in radio mode, displaying the info on the current artist/song if signal is enabled, or I turn the display off completely.

If I'm not using the display, I just turn the screen off. Less distractions that way.

I have button #5 programmed to do this. Pushing it or any of the iDrive buttons brings the screen back up.

Make sure its propped up correctly otherwise you'll be looking at the kids in the back seat and being constantly reminded why you can't yet afford a 7 series.
