Which is why I carry a 12v compressor. When I got a nail in a RFT, I simply inflated it as necessary to get to a repair shop and since it wasn't driven while flat, it was repaired with no drama for about $20.

How fast was she driving? How far did she drive on it?

Sidewall damage is not repairable, period. Run-flat makes no difference whatsoever; this bit of crappy luck would have cost you a tire either way. I feel your frustration--I swear my lifetime ratio of tread to sidewall punctures favors the sidewall, despite the tread area being sooo much larger than the sidewalls (as viewed from the road).

The RFT allowed your wife to drive home instead of waiting roadside for a tow or help changing a tire.

Wait, never mind, just realized you meant the sidewall was damaged by her driving it home while flat, not by the puncture. Sorry; carry on.

Isn't this the point of RFT? Seems like it functioned as it should have and gave it's life so your wife wasn't stranded...

Not sure how much this matters, but there are suggestions that when replacing just one tire, make sure the tread is not too different on the other tire across from it, so if the other one is getting up in miles, replace it at the same time so you don't have 1 bald tire 1 new tire on the same axle and throw off the car.

A non-RF would of course gone flat also, but your wife may have been delayed waiting for road service...but she drove home in this case. Not a terrible scenario?

These things happen.

My local tire place gives me 50% off of the warranty protection when you ask so ends up being like $10-$15 per corner for a no questions ask replacement.

Things happen to the go flats too. Had a nail in the sidewall and had to replace a brand new tire. Seems like a waste, but what else can you do?

we are being dictated by Government safety regulations

In country like Vietnam, they possibly fix my tire and send me back on the road again for $5
