Hidden start feture ?

I have a 2012 x1 without comfort access. So I need to insert the key and then hit start button.
I some how found out that if the car is running, you can shut it off, take the key out, and then put foot on brake and hit start button again and car will start with key in hand.
This is very handy in our-30 weather when running into a store or something. I can start it back up and take the key with me to lock the doors.

Any one else know about this?

Works also for the e90. It is no hidden feature, but not well known.
