Key

I ordered a new key, and new FOB for my aftermarket system, as my old fob case bit the dust, and no replacement cases are available, only the whole FOB.
They key i ordered is a basic blank, with a light.
But as i have read i need a transponder key.
Can i transfer the transponder from my old key to the new one?
More importantly where is it in my key, i cannot see where the key would open up.
Ill attach pics of the new and old key.
The new key is the one with the BMW logo in color.

EDIT--My car has EWSII, thats why i think i need the transponder.

Yes,

EWSII requires a coded transponder from what I have read...but I am not sure you can swap out the 'chip' or not...

Why not cancel that order and roll it into a key blank with an uncoded transponder chip in it (they are just a few bucks more ) and do this :

Where did you get that key? Both of our key's handles are broken and sort of sucks unlocking it.

Amazon, 12$.
If i can't see how to switch the transmitter, it will make a great spare if i lock my key in.

Take it to a locksmith to have it cut to match the keys you have

I suspect it should. The basic transponder technology is the same its only frequencies that differ from car to car, which is what creates the protection.

The chip in the key initialises and synchs with the ignition's key ring anyway. It might be independent of the keyless entry system.

I just read through that bfc thread. You need to read it through the end including the other posts. They are very poor at being comprehensive, eliminating problems upfront, asking and answering questions ahead of time. I really should write a post on how to write clear authoritative posts.

Anyway, if I were you I would post this question in that bfc thread or pm the author directly. He/they would know for sure.

Zombie, once you find out definitively, please update your thread here for our benefit. Thanks.

p.s. Any progress on your brakes ?

Im yet to find someone around me that can cut it. Two have a laser cutter but my key is too wide.
Cant see why it is so hard to find a cutter. Guess ill just go to BMW and get a key.

So i got the key, and ordered an uncoded one, no luck programming it. Would not work, took it to a locksmith no luck, he told me more than once he could not do it to a BMW because they have like 10 transponders(chips) made for the car. Only those can be used, i called the dealer closest to me and they said the same, 10 are made you come in with the car ID proof of ownership, they will cut the new key and have to transponder shipped over here to put it in the key.
Two keys down and still no spare, should have gone there first. I will run by there asap.

But it would work with a BMW without keyless entry, right? Just have them cut it into the key you provide.. ? Haha.
