Shock Absorber Broken!

Has anyone seen anything like this?
Rear right shock absorber broken! This is my E90 330i
No impact or accident.

Almost looks like mfctg fault ie quality. Probably out of any warranty and easy fix.

I had the same thing happen to a new Bilstein, broke at the same place. Luckily that one was under eartenty, but did have to pay labor again.

I'm sure there's a reason for this, but I can't figure it out.

Mileage on that shock?

The car has 130,000KM on the clock.
I found out it was broken because of the clicking sound.

Yeah! Not to mention altered performance....

So, you're saying the shocks have 130k km service? That's over 80k mi and they were due, prob overdue, for R&R. For better performance and ride comfort, Koni FSD is a first choice.

Metal fatigues. Any metal part can fail.

At 130,000 KM you were surely past due for new shocks anyway.
