For BMW's Insurance Provider you need to sign up at the time of delivery. You should get a quote before signing on as you can use it as a negotiating tool. It's really not a bad idea given the issues with the RFT's.

Their may be 3rd party insurers, but I can't recall any off the top of my head. I went with the dealer.

Some dealers also offer third party tire warranties. I paid $1500 for my 5yr zero deductible tire insurance(3rd party) But I drive a 14 msport x3. Already used it once due to a nail within the first 2 months. It all depends where u live for it to be worth it. Living in pothole city NY I think it's safe to say it was worth it just this year alone.

Biggest factor is where you live. That will also determine the cost of the tire insurance.

Just quoted $1400 for 5 year/$50 deductible from BMW. I will probably take the 3 or 4 year policy, at $1200-1300 if I decide to lease.

This is worth it. They quoted me $1,400 but nego. Down to a cool $900 for it at 5 years and zero deduct. I like it because it rolls over to new tires over the 5 years and covers wheels too.

LFTW8S - was that for the BMW coverage or a third party?

BMW coverage. The one thing I wanted was "cosmetic repair" on the wheels but they did not offer it. However, if I hit a hole and bend the wheel they will replace it.

My wife's E350 - I picked up Mercedes wheel/tire warranty that included cosmetic. Really like that with all the valet she does.

Good to know. Best price I had heard was in the $1400 range. Our car is about 3 days from port. This info will be useful with the f&i guy.

I agree with the poster above - drive to the OEM shop and buy road hazard immediately. I have the staggered 19" Bridgestones and I bought road hazard from the Firestone store for less than $300. Some tires have road hazard included - see tire warranty details.

The wheel protection to me is not worth it because it only covers a catastrophic type failure of the rim - not curb rash or scrapes. The probability of catastrophic failure is low in my opinion.

in October of 2011 it was $1200 on my wife's 335i lease. She has already gone through 6 tires and 1 wheel so it paid for itself.

Here's a new one for you ( me at least)... bought the Wheel/Tire warranty at the dealership during signing and it lowered my lease payment by $10/month!! Anyone care to explain that one? This is a scam I have never seen by a dealer in all my years...

I was just quoted $1909 for BMW s own tire and wheel insurance for three years. They say they no longer offer third party insurance due to issues with claims. He said its about their cost. Can anyone confirm without a doubt that it's BMWs own insurance for $900 and if so where are you located as I'd imagine it varies by region. FWIW I did have a claim paid by a third party insurer without issue earlier this winter.

I'll also add that I know the dealer personally and would be offended if he was being less than truthful.

From what I've been reading on all of the BMW forums, $1909 is at the top end. I actually went out and bought two new wheels to keep for back-up ... you can find them @ Factory Wheel Warehouse in your lovely State.

I was skeptical at first - they sent me two wheels - one looked fantastic, the other not so much. They sent another & and return label for the 'not so much' specimen and both look brand new. If you have an M-Sport, make sure you ask for the emblems - they throw them in for no charge. I paid $140/wheel for the 351's in 8.5 inch width + $25 shipping.

My guess based on the winter you guys are having in NY is that claims are sky high and premiums will inevitably go up. If they're hooked with some of you for 5 yrs, the new guys entering the risk pool are going to pay dearly. Our roads in StL aren't as bad ... yet, so I am taking my chances.

I negotiated BMW's branded wheel and tire insurance to $1200 at Elmhurst BMW last fall. I have not had good experiences with wheel and tire insurance from third parties including that which was purchased from Flow BMW in North Carolina. With wheel and tire insurance it is buyer beware. God is in the details of the policy.

I think my quote fo about $100 less than yours ($1799)(for a 535 x drive not yet delivered). This was for BMW insurance that covers everything including curb rash. I'm also on Long Island. I think with the price of tires and wheels and the state of the roads here insurance is smart. A couple of years ago when I was in MB I hit a pothole that got both front and rear (off ramp from Clearview to Grand Central). That one claim made the insurance I had a very good thing. This winter has been worse and the potholes this spring are going to be something else.

I negotiated $1,300 for 5 years of coverage and it's been a godsend... 1 winter rim, 2 winter tires and 4 LS2 replacements have already paid for my policy and then some. This is one issue which has me seriously reconsidering BMW as my car of choice in future.

I paid $1200 for the insurance for my CPO '11 but it's through a third party insurer. I've used them once and other than confirming my policy it was as easy as pie to get my tire replaced. Best piece of mind I've ever bought. I think we paid $1500 for my wife's policy for her 335ix when we bought it new but it was a BMW company policy. 3rd party plans are cheaper and more negotiable.

I paid $1100 on delivery in Decmeber 2011. I think I am on my 8th new tire, so it has paid for itself. It has definitely gone up in price as these companies are losing their shirts in the Northeast pot hole capital of the U.S. I hit a pothole last week and the minute I hit it, the flat tire warning popped up. The good news is that this was the only tire that had not been replaced at least once under warranty and I was probably lookng at shelling out $$$ for this one tire before turning the car in this December. RFT's suck, get the insurance.

A recent review said it was $1389 in NY for 5 years from BMW. I have yet to sit down with the F&I guy but I'm going to offer $1500 and see what happens...prices have gone up this winter.

I bought my BMW W&T insurance back in 2011 for $1400, the car has the run flats and with
the bad roads around where I live, I felt it was a necessity. Well six months ago I was on my way to work and hit a pot hole, rim and tire had to be replaced to the tune of close to $2000.
If you live in the northeast and have run flats the Insurance is a must.

Tire and Wheel Protection

Hello from Afghanistan. I purchased my 2011 535Xi, while stationed in Germany few years ago. I didn't get the tire and wheel protection plan. I know I am not able to get the BMW plan but how do I go about getting a third part plan? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
