Hydraulic asst steering

Thinking of an E90 to replace old E46. What was the last year made before the introduction of electric steering ?

It was introduced with the F30, all E9x have hydraulic.

Electric steering is a trip. I don't have it but have driven the rentals with it. I would want the option of turning it off and only going hydraulic but I'm not sure if that is a feature. I can see it being beneficial to someone who needs more effortless steering but would like a BMW sports car.

Read up on how steering works, since it doesn't really seem like you have a firm understanding of it. Also, steering effort has nothing to do with whether its hydraulic or electric. Both can be designed to be easy or hard to turn.

I think you're referring to active steering where the steering ratio changes based on vehicle speed.

It was an option on E9x so not all E9x will have this feature.

It's quite a difference from the normal setup. A car came into the shop the other day with it and I almost steered right into traffic on a test drive. I wasn't used to the active steering haha
