Ghost in the radio

I've been in the process of rebuilding my 530i I recently bought, I've sorting out different issues with it, mainly electrical gremlins, since I bought the car, the radio (factory radio) has never worked, but today when I was working on the car, I turned the key on, then all of a sudden, the radio backlighting came on, but nothing else radiowise came on, then when I switched the key back off, the radio backlighting stayed on until I had to pull the radio and pull the 5 amp fuse off the back of the radio, I continued to work on other things on the car most of the day, then before I finished up, I reconnected the fuse and radio, the backlighting came back on again, with the key off. Any body have a idea on this issue?
My other issue I'm having, when I turn the key on, the CHECK CONTROL msg comes on and stays on, theres is no faults detected by it that I havent been able to find. I press the reset button to scroll the message, and it says to check owners manual. Would this have anything to do with the radio not working? I've been looking at a electrical print and noticed the radio, obd and ccm are tied in together one way or another, any advice would be appreciated

Sounds like the check control module has failed, it is detecting a fault in the module. IIRC it needs to be replaced to fix that. Im not sure if that relates to the radio though.
EDIT_____
Before replacing the module have the battery AND alternator checked. These cars are high demand for power, any loss of it and they act crazy and have all kinds of strange electrical issues. This could be the relating factor between all your electrical gremlins.

Absolutely check the condition of the battery voltage. I was wiring in an after market radio on a car that has a pretty dead battery- hasn't been driven in months. The same symptoms occurred. I jumped the car with another and everything came back to normal.

The radio backlighting is staying on all the time unless I pull the radio out and remove the 5 amp fuse out the back of it, I was working on my car most of the day yesterday, the backlighting stayed on for 8+ hours, everything else off in the car except that.
I just replaced the battery and altenator before I got my car running, I replaced the altenator because I had a 9 amp current draw on the electrical system when it was shut off
