BMW X3 2014 Fuel Consumption

Hi,

I have a question regard fuel consumption on a 2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i. I recently purchase this vehicle and have concerns based on what the dealer told me when purchasing it where I had to call them back roughly a week later because a had concerns. I wastold that when running on Econo Drive with the Start/Stop option (engine shuts off when stopped) enabled and accelerating and driving under 3000 rpms it would get great fuel efficiency from the vehicle which he compared to a mini cooper classic at the time of purchase. He explained that the consumption could be as low as 5.8 l/km 100. Please note this is not a diesel.

Is this true? Has anyone experienced this themselves?

5.8 L/KM 100 is equivalent to 40.3 MPG. Since that engine is rated at 28 MPG Highway (8.3 L/KM 100), it really seems doubtful that you will only use 5.8 L/KM 100 under normal conditions.

That sounds about right.. I get 19mpg city and 24 highway. I do have a 35i though, which is geared slightly higher than 2.8..

Yes, it matters where you drive but even more so *HOW*. If you switch to *SPORT* habitually after you start the car you'll be looking at 18 mpg. Should you listen to the voices in your head you can expect low 20's with the exact result depending on your mix of city/highway driving situation.

I get an avg of 19.6 in city. I have a lead foot and get up to speed (maybe a little over) quickly.

I wonder if the cold plays a role as well. I'm in New Hampshire.

I had a X3 35i loaner and did a 600 mile round trip 98% highway and got 26.4 mpg using eco and driving moderately average speed of 71.3

Put that in a 28i and maybe see a mile or two better?

My 2014 X3 is very new... about 1000 miles on it. Got 24.5 MPG city on first tank. Currently reading 28 MPG for 1/3 highway, 2/3 city. I checked the display versus filling the tank and the display reading appears to be accurate. Note: My "city" driving is not stop & go; there are not many stop lights, but speeds are low and and lot of stop signs.

City: 18-19 in the winter, low 20's in the warmer weather
Highway: Low 20's in the winter, mid 20's in warmer weather.

Best mileage I've had in the past 13 months was 25. The driving mix average was 20.

****ty for a turbo four IMO.

Update:
Just filled up the X3: 27.3 mpg. (The panel readout and actual values agree within 0.1 mpg) This was 35% highway, 65% town. Car is a brand new 2014 X3 28i. Have 1300 miles on the car.

A month on X3 2.0d xDrive already.
City: 7.5 l/100 km.
Highway: 6.5 l/100 km with cruise control on 123 km/h. Drove 1200 km for a day. Refuel on 1016 km, with a message for fuel for 3 km. Average speed 111 km/h.
On the way back, with more aggressive driving and testing Sport and Sport+ modes, reach on the same way consumption 7.8 l/100 km. Drove with 140+ on most of the places.

I just finished a trip with 80% highway and averaged 23.9 mpg. That was in comfort mode, and I was in a hurry hitting 80 mph at times as traffic permitted. It's also a bit hilly around here (and still quite cold). You must be driving in ECO mode, correct?

First distance I drove in Eco pro and reach 6.5 l/100 km.
On the way back drove mainly in Sport mode.
Acceleration is awesome, the car stays different on the road.
And the consumption is more than average also.

Also the fuel quality is important. With "wrong" fuel need to add 20% more consumption.

karavan,

Your car has the advantage of the diesel engine which will get 25% better fuel economy over a petrol engine.

The best my 35i has gotten is 9.9L/100kms at an average 105km/hr.

Depends on how you drive, I'm guessing you don't drive with a light foot on the gas pedal. Maybe if you lighten up a little you just MIGHT get better MPG..

The US will get this engine in the X3 for MY 2015, so MPG should be better.

Nope. wife drives it to and from work, in comfort mode and auto trans w/o shifting. Heavy acceleration and speeding aren't really her thing.

BMW X3 2014 Fuel Consumption

I've got a 2014 x3 35i msport with DHP. These are my numbers

City: 22-25 MPG
Highway: 30-32 MPG
Combined 26.5 (total 15k miles).

Actual combined was around 27.5 in summer of 2013 but this winter really messed up my driving style. Winter gas mix does not help either.

Here are some pictures to prove my point. This is after my daily commute from work.

I have 2011 x3 3.5 and I average about 20 in city and 27-28 (at 60-70mph) and I drive like a grandma unless somebody tries to be over-smart. If I drive at 50mph, I can perhaps exceed 30mpg
VZX, your numbers look good.
