I hit a pothole and now have creaking cabin noise

Hey all, I just hit a pothole pretty hard, going about 40 mph. The right tire dipped down in to the pothole and after I came back on level road, there was this noise coming from the inside of the car. It sounded like creaking plastic or something. Maybe the vertical force compressed and broke something? On the 10 minute drive home now, it was mostly quiet, but every 30 seconds or so there was something that sounded like creaking or straining plastic. It comes and goes as It's definitely noticeable because the cabin ride used to be quiet.

Any idea what this could be? Could it just be that the suspension is fine, but it was just tested more than its used to and this is the recovery from that? I was about to go drive it on the highway to see if the alignment is off or if the noise persists. Any other things I should look for?

Based on what I said, would you advise bringing into a dealer? I don't want to drive the service department crazy, but I also want to catch a potential problem before it gets big. What kind of damage does it sound like it could be? Any idea about order of magnitude for repair cost (ie is it likely to be closer to $100 or $1000).

I would find a mechanic and put the car on a lift to do an inspection of the suspension components.

I bet you broke the top of the strut.

Open the hood and look at where the struts are bolted in.
