Malfunction in transmission

Hello!

Just when I thought i was done with repairs, this happened. I've gotten this message four times now. It happens right when I start the car, and if you don't look quick enough, it's gone. The car doesn't behave abnormally. The only issue with the trans is it makes a sharp metallic sound when shifting from park. I believe this is the trans mounts, and I have ordered them.

Does this normally mean trans failure is imminent? The water pump and column lock recently went out... still haven't cleared those codes yet :/ If the trans is bad, can i replace it with a ZF?

I have reset the transmission with the accelerator pedal, which did nothing. 2007 e90 328i.

ummm the title lol. "Malfunction in transmission"

No codes, do not have the ability to read them. Buying a cable today. The Malfunction in transmission message comes up right when I start the car. It's come up 4 times in 6 weeks. No apparent transmission issues.
