Buy an E38 sport?

I love my 528 and have had two, but can't get the thought of having a V12 connected to the gas pedal out of mind. The short/sport model with the big beefy factory rims is so cool.

I've done a bit of searching and the short (not IL) version with a V12 and Sport options are just not available.

I've never driven any V12 7 series, and don't know whether to add this into the same dream catagory where a supermodel breaks down out front and asks to use my phone, or to keep looking.

How rare was this beast?

Anybody ever owned one and care to tell me whether it's "supermodel" troublesome, or the joy it appears to be?

Oh, this has to be an E38. None of the newer models.

A Short Wheelbase 750i w/ sport doesn't exists in the US. They only imported LWB 750.

Ditto...if you're looking to move up to the e38...perhaps the info about the US models below will be helpful. We only got the 4.0/4.4 V8s & M73 V12 models. The exceptions are...no SWB 750i was imported during the entire production run from 1995-2001, and in 1996, no SWB 740i was imported.

(ignore the typo about the V12...the engine should be the M73...not the M72)

Oh my

Thanks AOM7 and Qsilver7. Just goes to show that we cant have everything we want.

So I guess that I have to decide on a longbase V12 or a shorty V8.

I'm still interested in hearing if the V12 is as sexy-cool as it sounds, and worth compromising on the body length to feel that smooth power.

750 owners, what do you say?

No problem... not sure if it makes a difference to you, but no stock 750il can accelerate faster than a stock 99-01 740i with a sport package... all tests put the 740i at least .5-1 sec faster. I suspect the V12 must have more on the top end though.

Yes to the e38...and don't call me sport!! Actually I have driven a BMW V12 and was impressed until talking to the owner about comparison operating and maintenance costs between my 740 and his 860CI. There are several V12s on Craigs list including coupes. Great looking and really cool but I'll stay with my V8.
