Single Exhaust?

Why in the world would BMW put a single side exhaust on this car?

What a disappoint it is to see single side exhaust on the 35i model. Even Volvo and most modern cars with a hint of sportiness come with dual side exhaust these days. You will not find any Mercedes or even Lexus, Acura anymore with single exhaust. Doesn't matter the engine. I don't terribly mind seeing it on the 28i or 20i, but top of the range 35? Besides looking terrible and imbalanced on a sporty car, single exhaust just doesn't belong on a premium brand such as BMW. What were they thinking

Was really excited about the possibility of a smaller, lighter, more nimble baby X6 in my garage. Major design flaw in my opinion. Porsche, here I come!

Personally, I will put more (buying) decision on how it drives, the mileage, the power, the handling and the stereo.

And if it does all of the above well - I will not lose any sleep over having two side-by-side on the same side!

I suppose everyone has their own pet-peeves..

Cheers

What's the difference how it drives or what mpg it gets, if it looks imbalanced. It is the lunacy of the stylistic decision that absolutely kills this car. Looks and style play the grandest role in a car like the X4. There are plenty of more practical, better driving, more economical cars out there. You don't buy an X4 for these reasons. A car like the X4 is about emotion and indulgence. Passion and lust. And on these grounds the X4 is flawed, if for no better reason than the single sided, asymmetrical exit of it's character.

Sounds like you would appreciate a number of M badges on the M Sport model as well....

If it makes economic sense I will choose the Macan over the X4...but not for prestige or what others may think. The exhaust doesn't spoil it for me.

This is not about badges or prestige or any of that nonsense. It's about design, architecture, flow. The rear of this car should and otherwise does exude power, and proportion. Yet It gets completely spoiled by the lack of symmetry. Again, the main point of this car is it's style not it's driving dynamics, practicality or economy none of which are it's strong points.

I guess I see your point, you want a baby X6 right? I AM looking for driving dynamics, practicality and economy.

I moved from the dual exhaust you desire to a single on my S2000 once I installed a turbo.

Here is a screen cap from the Spartanburg Video.

This is what the X4 should have looked like. Can clearly see dual side exhaust. Looks balanced and so much better. As the designer intended. Why then, did they go with the decision to dilute this car's character by switching to single? This is what I mean when I say "It is the lunacy of the stylistic decision" that kills this car for me.

Since money is no object to you, z51vette, maybe you should custom mod the X4 to give it some symmetry (backside cosmetic surgery).

Besides, was never a fan of any sort of surgical alteration

It appears that the photo hanging in the Greer plant of the X4 was the concept. Agreed that dual exhaust would of been nice, but the X4 is really a X3 with the sloped roof, different front/rear design, and lower ride. It will interesting in 4 years when the F25 undergoes an all new model design process and the chassis, interior, ect are all re-done. What will BMW do with the F26 as so many common parts are shared? The F26 would only be due a LCI.

If you don't like the single exhaust you can replace it with a 3" titanium tip to make it look badass.
