740il k&N cold air intake?

Has anyone ever tried a green or k&n air filter or air intake on their E38?

re

You get no advantage from a K&N filter also they require oil which will ruin your MAF

K&N cone type set ups draw air from within the engine bay, which is of course hotter that that drawn in by the standard set up from bumper level. This results in *less* power because warm air is less dense, and therefore contains less oxygen.

Secondly, if the claim is that the filter passes more air/is less restrictive, how is this achieved? It can only be because there are bigger holes in the filter, which means bigger particles entering your engine....

Finally, as already mentioned an oiled type filter can affect the MAF. Too many disadvantages.....

true, K& N filter can ruin a NON maintenced MAF Sensor....Best advise is to clean the sensor from time to time for it to last...It doesn`t give you added Horsepower.....Just a throatier engine sound.. FYI.....Every car has a MAF Sensor...If you place the filter toooo close to the maf sensor it will ruin it sooner than if u install the intake tube far from it( like DINAN does Behind the front bumper ) then u should be ok....Definetly dont install K&N in the hot engine bay...u will go backwards as far as HP...Look at is u want a CAI not a HAI
