Folks,
I will be staying in Nice, France for 5 days. Any recommedations for a nice hotel near the beach?
We are going with our 1 year old 1st week of Dec.
Thanks,
Bobby.

I was there last year in October and the weather was not sufficiently warm to consider going to the beach. The highs in the day were in the mid 60's. I cannot imagine what it would be in December. Edit: I just noticed you are from the PNW so we may different expectations of what is warm.

There are couple of us boardmembers that have stayed at Hotel La Flore in Villafranche-sur-mer, on the road to Monaco. Over looks the bay and has a pool but was already closed in October.

Do a search on "Nice Hotels" and you should be able to find additional information.

Villefranche-sur-mer is the next town east of Nice, but is so much quieter, which you may or may not prefer. Also noted are Hotel Welcome (closer to the beach) and Le Versailles (next door to La Flore, both on Boulevard Princesse Grace de Monaco, the low road between Nice and Monaco).

I can post pictures of the view from La Flore if there's interest.

It seems to me a shame to go to Nice and not stay at a hotel on the Promenade des Anglais -- at least for your first visit. It is very long and lined with hotels. Across the street is the beach.

See the link below for photos:

How nice are you looking for? Some say the Hotel Negresco is one of the top 10 hotels in the world.

There are many other places on the Promenade des Anglais as well, very nice, but not nearly as expensive. I think there's also the standard French chains that have hotels on the promenade, like Mercure and Ibis.

A few of my photos from Hotel La Flore. First one is wife and son on the patio behind our room at La Flore. Rooms on the upper levels and in the main building have even better views, but we liked having a full patio. The other images show the facade of the hotel, the view from the hotel to the water, and the Le Versailles sign (see they, really are neighbors).

No complaints from me about the hotel. I really appreciated having a quite room to which I could return in a town that didn't have the bustle of Nice.
