Picked up my F22 M235i via ED in Munich Today

Picked up my new Estoril Blue F22 M235i with 6 speed manual, black Dakota, premium, technology, driver assistance and cold weather packages plus HK. Drove it from Munich to the Ring to Frankfurt today. The adaptable suspension is great for high speed driving but it is hard to keep this car in the right lane on the Autobahn. This car replaced my 2011 E90 N55 manual trans. which replaced my 2007 E90 N54 manual trans.

Ok - here are two quick facts that may not be widely known:

1. The speed limiter hits rather softly at an indicated 160 mph.
2. With a two day average speed of around 87 mph we are averaging about 22.7 mpg according to the onboard computer.

I think all 155mph BMWs have the 160 top speed indicator. This is because BMW displays around 5mph higher than actual. Awesome that you got to experience that.

I would expect mpg to be better reflected once the car has fully broken in. Enjoy! Can't wait to do mine.

How do you like the manual? Better or worse than your others?

I have only been able to find a 435i in manual on a lot near me, and when I drove that, I thought that there was a pretty significant amount of lever throw, and the clutch pedal was on the softer side.

This being said, I am coming from a 2009 wrx with a short shift kit and a heavy clutch pedal...

The 8 speed is "nice" and quicker than expected, but still not a DCT, which I think is the only thing that could pry me away from a manual tranny, unless the 235i is the same as the 435 I drove...

I wish I could find a M235i in manual to know for sure!

The manual in my M235i is very. very good, but not the best that I've had in a BMW. It is far better than the manual in my 2007 E90 335i. In comparison it has a shorter shift than that car. However, the lever throw seems a bit longer than the throw in my 2011 E90 335i M-Sport. All clutches in BMWs are on the lighter side - even in the M5 that I tracked last fall. Long story short, as good as the 8 speed auto is, I would never get that box. Go for the manual tranny!

First of all, congrats on the new M235i. Blue was my first choice until I saw the MG . I traded in my 2013 WRX with the STi shifter for a M235i a couple weeks ago. Drove both the manual and auto back to back. The manual in the M235i is just as you have described here. Compared to my WRX it is terrible though. The automatic 8-speed BMW has done for this car works perfectly and was the easy choice. I'm sure a good shift kit the manual M235i will be available that will greatly improve it, heck that is what made my E92 work for me.

Enjoy your new ride! I certainly am, albeit not at autobahn speeds! Live in Germany for 3 years back in the early 80's and had my fill of that, will maybe not completely

How is the license plate attached? Do they drill holes like usual? Is it possible for ED to ask them to not drill any holes and keep the license plate in the window or something?

Really? If this is true, it would be surprising as anybody can just steal it. It would be good though! No holes.

And it is April 1st today in my timezone, gotta be careful!

There is a form out there that you print out and put inside the car if you want to keep the plates.

https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=497002

Post that on the dash, seats, trunk. Hopefully they get the message and leave the plates!

Yep, double-sided tape.

I put copies of the "leave the plates" form on the dash, front passenger seat and rear deck. We'll see what comes off the ship.
