Without even seeing them in person, I'd go with the Macan S over the X4 35i. More power, more sporty, better looking - all for about the same price.

+101. After initially thinking about X3 or X4 to replace my X5, I went with Macan. Much better drive. Sportier but also more comfortable for some reason.

The first few pictures make this choice easy. Porsche all day long. The X4 is hideous.

Everybody has their own option, but for me it always been the x4(x6),I drove the macan before buying the x4 and did feel the power and handle was slightly better not by much just by a hair. what we have to realize is 1. macan sits lower 2.has wider wheels 3. more horsepower, now if i'm not mistaken those points for any suv will result in car like feel.Driving my car then my suv takes a few minutes to adjust from one to to other.

Is there an online forum like this for Porsche that is helpful in working out pricing?

Sorry, Porsche fans, imho...Porsche is just a glorified Volkswagen. Over 40 years, I've never liked Porsches. They look bug-eyed, like a frog. Ugly cars. The only Porsche that I found somewhat appealing was the 928. The Macan...nope. The Cayenne...just a suped up Toureg or Audi Q-whatever. No imagination at all.

The same guys who say the X4 is ugly and the Macan is gorgeous...I see the opposite. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Macan has more power? Power matters if you know how to use it, which I seriously doubt you "rush hour" racers truly know when you're stuck in traffic going to and coming from work everyday.

Definitely agree. The Macan looks like a japanese car, kind of like a mazda. That being said, the only good looking bmw's are the x models and the 1 series. Everything else looks like a clamshell with japanese like headlights. So sad.

I drove both of them.

Performance wise the Macan S and the X4 Sport 2.8 are very similar.

Interior I favor the x4 which is much cleaner and spartan compared to the very busy interior of the Macan.

Exterior is a matter of opinion. Macan certainly is a very nice looking vehicle with a fantastic front-end. X4 sometimes I think it's very cool and bold and
sometimes I think it's fat and dorky. It also depends on which color.

Unfortunately as noted in another thread the X4does not offer factory roof rails which may be a deal killer for me. I can use aftermarket stuff but it does not look clean and sophisticated and at this price point and with this marquis it should.

Not really no. Also there is no "2.8" X4. It's a X4 28i with a 4 banger. The Macan S is faster than the 35i.

When I price out a Macan S with similar options as my X4 35i, I get a sticker price that's well over 10K more. I like the tech toys, so that may be part of the problem.

The fact that the Macan is a Porsche is also not a positive thing for me, there isn't a dealership nearby. I couldn't care less about brand prestige. I'd happily drive a Ford if the dealership/service department wasn't such a miserable experience.

I like the X4 styling better anyway. To each their own. A couple years ago I almost bought an X1 but it seemed just a touch too small and basic. The X3 was perfect I just couldn't warm up to its utilitarian look. X6 was a jaw dropper but was just WAY too big and expensive for me. The X4 was finally the sweet spot.

This. And worse! I spec'd a Macan S the way I wanted it and it was $70k.

The X4 35i M Sport I got stickered at $59+ and I got it for $53k, $1500 under dealer invoice and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less that I could've gotten the Macan. Is it as sporty or fast? No. Is it 9x% of the Macan in that regard? Absolutely, and with a much nicer interior IMO.
