Looking at buying a 2008 BMW 328xi but high kms!

Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate your advice here...

Im looking at buying a 2008 BMW 328xi 6 speed manual sedan for $16975. Beautiful car from the outside however it has 99000km! (about 56000 miles) Im test driving it tomorrow.

Is this a good deal or am I setting myself up for empty pockets and headaches?

Any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance.

56k miles? If i read that correct thats not high mileage. Still pretty low for a 2008. I bought my 06 330i with about 90k. Check car fax and services records. If they show the car is well taken car of then i see no problem purchasing it. Eventually you'll need repairs (as with any car). And as you know its a BMW, repair bills will be higher. Good luck!

6 years old, less than 10k miles per year...decidedly lower than average annual mileage. You ought to be able to get another 40-50k miles before things start getting warn out (hoses, belts) or brittle (plastics) or needing recommended service (spark plugs). You might need thermostat and water pump somewhere between 60-80k typical. And a new battery. And depending upon the previous driver, a new clutch.

It's got a manual and that eliminates one giant potential migraine down the road. Inspect the maintenance record and get a PPI. As long as the car has a clean title (not a totaled, flood car or a salvage), 99000km is nothing.
If you have a good indy shop, have them check the car over.

Hey all,

Thanks for the great responses, I've learned a lot from you all. A coworker's friend has a BMW and he said that the miles are not that hight either.

I took it for a test drive today and fell in love. Wow, the power is amazing...the car also feels heavy and solid. The colour is almost a dark purple which looks cool.

Next step is to see what I can work out with the wife and the finance department.

Thanks again everyone!

You could be paying for a very long time, and I am not referring to the financing of the purchase!

In what way? Why would I be paying for a long time?

I figure if I buy a money pit I just sell it.

You clearly missed my point...'paying' was referring to what happens if your wife does not approve of your actions
Some folks hold grudges a lot longer than others, and it could come back to bite you long after you got rid of the car and payments.

Yes, like any used car.

Unless.....the will to win; the zeal to dare! Tools and a warm place to work.

Otherwise you live at the pleasure of mechanics.

i bought my 2007 328xi coupe with 311,000 kms MT, in top condition. my first bmw actually. Everything works perfectly , recently the AC is not cooling as it should. So I'm about to sell it after a year. Bought a 2006 650i as a replacement with 150,000 kms. Beginning to miss the 3 series already.
