640 M-Sport Edition Convertible European Delivery

Just got back from a European Delivery for a 640 M-Sport Vert. Thanks to all here who were helpful with my pre-purchase questions. Loved driving the car in Germany. I only had a couple of days with it, so I feel like I just scratched the surface, but it sure was fun on the autobahn. I am very very happy I got the ARS; I felt a huge difference with it compared to the cars I had driven without it. As much as I tried, I really didn't come close to pushing the car's limits. I highly recommend doing a European Delivery at least once; you really get to experience these beautiful machines the way they were meant to be experienced.

I am reading the manual now so I will be ready when the car arrives next month. But there were a few nice little surprises and first impressions...One of the coolest little things was the horsepower and torque gauge you could bring up on iDrive. I also love the Dynamic Display, though I was worried that it would be a little tacky looking compared to the beautiful understated standard instrument cluster. I loved having Heads-Up again, and also loved when it was turned off, that the Dynamic Display took over where HUD left off in terms of Navigation instructions. The transmission is a thing of beauty. I'm not sure about the premium stereo, though I think it is superior to what I have in my M3 now (hopefully?). I also learned it is difficult to take good pictures of a black car; the car looks much better in person than in pics.

So...preliminary first impressions are great. We'll see how I feel after I get some more time behind the wheel next month.

Congrats! ED is the best way to get your new BMW, but unfortunately the agonizing wait for redelivery is the downside.

Was it warm enough for some top-down driving?

The weather was great. In the 50's; top was down with seat heater on.

Apparently Germany had almost no winter this year. When I was there a couple weeks ago it got into the 60s and felt like spring. Was a nice reprieve from the polar vortex we've been experiencing in the northeast!

Good to hear about the convertible weather. I guess, I picked the wrong year. It snowed to some extent everyday during my ED in Feb 13. Well, at least that didn't stop me from bouncing off the speed limiter on the Autobahn.

I was not quite as bold as you, trying to keep to break-in guidelines, but the car sure is sweet at 120 and above (hypothetically, of course). Thanks to German road construction and good drivers, the autobahn is so sweet. Unfortunately, it ruins you forever when back in the States.

Congrats on the car! It's beautiful. You're going to love it. Very jealous of your ED. I'm hoping to do that next time around.

I got lucky; it got on a ship a few days after I dropped it off. The ship arrives April 11th, car should be in my hands about a week or so later. And I'm enjoying my last month with M3, so the wait's ok.
