Mein Auto: X5 3.0 Petrol Auto 2001
Unhappy Transmission issue? from start up:

3.0 petrol X5 2001. Auto box:

Hi, Anyone had the following issue:

From initial start [but not all the time] there is very erratic drive, drives very slowly, then faster by lots of jerking forward feels as though there is a fuel issue but as the rev counter remains rock steady it rules out engine, then after say about mile or so it'll suddenly burst into life & drive normally, no further issues, until, i start it again [but not always].

Have tried stopping & re starting, sometimes this does the trick & it drives away OK, other times not, no warning lights or any messages are displayed, except for and again sometimes "TRANS.FAIL-SAFE PROG".

Any feedback would be appreciated..............Regards Ian.

The same thing has been going on since I've bought my X5 used. Took it to the shop they had it for over a month and never found what the problem was, now it's getting worse.

I suspect that transmission was serviced according to BMW recommendation? Which meant, it wasn't touched and you have over 100k miles on it? (it approached its lifetime)
Only option is to service transmission - replace transmission fluid couple times and put new filter Plus reset transmission adaptations... This will cost close to $1k..
Next is full rebuild or replacement. ($5-7k)
