Oil Level e53 3.0i

I recently had an oil change back in January, but when I checked my oil dipstick, I noticed that it was getting real close to the low part or the minimum.
I bought a couple bottles of oil and added just to be safe, but is this normal?
how is the oil consumption for your x5s,.

Dipsticks are ballparks, but on my '01 it is a quart low when it is at/slightly below the lower mark on the stick.
..."a couple bottles of oil" is either 2 qts or 2 ltrs, either of which is too much when the stick is barely down to the min mark.

Why would you think you were 2 quarts/liters low?

This is late March; how many miles since that oil change in January?

Yes, they 'use' oil: the BMW spec some dealers like to point to suggests ~750 to 1000 miles is in 'spec', fwiw.

Other possibility is the joint that did the Jan oil change did not add the full capacity of oil upon refill. Your Manual, that book in the glove box getting dusty sez: 8.1 qts or 7.6 liters after an oil drain. The joint may have short filled you, or your car simply consumed not quite a qt/liter since January.

Also, 'how to check oil level' is sometimes done improperly: drive until full warmed up/hot, turn off and let it sit in your flat driveway for 10+ mins, and then check the stick...
