Help

I just bought my first BMW X5 4.4 I am having a major issue. When I start my car it makes a loud sqeaking noise, sounds like its coming from the fan and it sounds really bad. also I have a leak just noticed today , engine light came on but went off. I cant figure out what the leak is!! it looks like wiper fluid but reservoir is still full.

Sounds like it could possibly be your compressor, without actually hearing the noise but I have heard what that sound like and I was replacing my compressor soon after.....hopefully it might just be a lose fan belt and if so you will want to get that fixed quick because vibration on that engine will cause other things to go faulty.

Yep, def sounds like a drive belt issue to me. Either that or one of the pulleys or tensioner. Belt should be replaced unless fairly new (they are cheap enough), and if any of the free running bearings (idlers, tensioner) have noise or do no run smoothly, they should be replaced as well.

It's surprising though, how noisy a drive belt can get once it's got a few cracks in it. They can get quite loud!
