First impressions 35i and questions

Luxury line with most the typical options. I owned 4 E70s in a variety of flavors before this and a few E53s.

Likes

Ride quality vastly improved over E70. No more thumps on frost joints on highways. Very impressed.

Cabin quality improved and electronics are awesome. Everything from the instrument panel to the iDrive display to the cameras. Very slick and well done.

Steering wheel heater more aggressive!

Love the look of my white luxury line. Nice mix of aggression and luxury.

Better driver seat room for tall guys like me with more headroom.

Dislikes

Bleeping Goodyear run flats. Drove them on less than 1" of snow and they were all over the place. Looks like an early tire replacement may be needed.

Steering is better at slow speeds when doing things like parking but not tight enough/feedback for normal driving, even in sport mode.

Questions

Anyway I can keep the X5 in Sport Mode without having to set it each time I start it?

Ditto for the computer display, I want to keep the compass on but it resets to miles remaining each time.

Is there a way to turn off night mode and keep the instrument panel white instead of switching to orange at night. Prefer the white look, tired of BMW orange.

Overall

Love the new X5 and looking forward to learning more about it.

I have talked to that guy. Just wondering if I missed something in the manual with the things I'm trying to do.

I am surprised that you did not feel any difference in road feel especially if you are coming from a few E53 and multiple E70s..

Actually, that's the first thing I said "Ride quality vastly improved over E70. No more thumps on frost joints on highways. Very impressed"

I'll expand on it. The road feel is more like my 2011 Acura MDX. More isolated and so far not as involved. My involved I mean I don't trust it around corners at higher speeds like the E70. Part of that is the steering, part may be the crappy Goodyear RFTs, and part is the more neutral suspension.

I like the compromise but it will take getting used to. The E70 was tight with the road and the F15 feels a more isolated. The E53 was nice, but I always felt it was underpowered (I6) and that took away from the experience.

Most people that test drove any of the F series BMW have noted the disconnect of road feel from the steering wheel..

I took your "ride quality vastly improved" comment as the ride was smoother and less bumpy or less harsh?
But I was referring to the steering feel and road feedback which you just answered for me above with "The E70 was tight with the road and the F15 feels a more isolated."
