Angry Production Delay - no info

Greetings all. I'm new to Bimmerfest and this is my first post. I'm very frustrated and am wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I ordered an X5 50i SIX MONTHS ago and have heard nothing about if or when it will ever be produced. The lack of apparent transparency is maddening and all my dealer can tell me is that mine is "next" whenever they get one allocated to them. Did I simply buy from the wrong dealer? Thanks for any input you have for me.

I would cancel the order from that dealer and order it from another dealer. Plus you can get a better price

Mein Auto: X5 (on order)
When we ordered from BMW San Francisco, we were told a production slot was 1 to 2 weeks away. They kept saying that every week for 5 weeks. So finally we cancelled and instead ordered from Pacific BMW in Southern California, got a production number right away, and a it started production within 2 weeks. If you're able to consider other dealers or even travel farther away to get it, you might have better luck elsewhere.

Let me guess, you ordered from Park Place? I doubt they have much for allocation.

Dealer I ordered from

Yes it was Park Place. I don't understand the whole allocation thing. Geez, you'd think orders would follow some sort of structure like maybe build them in the same order that the orders were placed? Guess I'll call Motorwerks in Minneapolis and see if they can help me. I've wasted a lot of time and perhaps should now even wait until the 2015's come out.

Call Ed Traisci at Motorwerks and tell him Dave and Jean referred you or send me a PM and I'll give you his email. They have a pretty solid allocation, my car went into production a few days after I ordered it.

Ed will take care of.you.

Smart play to move on to a new dealer. I custom ordered a build on March 11 and my X5 is due at the dealer this week. I monitored the production on-line and it took about 7 days from start to finish. Think it is fair to say there are no production delays.

Production delays

Thanks Clifton. I have to say I'm learning a lot in this process. Once upon a time I ordered an M Roadster and had it in about 6 weeks, through the same dealer. I had no idea what kinds of allocation games that get played and just assumed that orders are filled in the order they are received. I should have done more research up front.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Got mine scheduled for production today at Motorwerks in Minneapolis. I should have it in 3-4 weeks. Ironically my other dealer magically got one allocated to them today and still wants my biz. Go figure. Sticking with Motorwerks. Next up will be pics of my 4.4L V8 M Sport with every conceivable option. Cant wait to cruise to the sounds of the B&O stereo!

Hey all, I'm happy to report that SIX days after ordering my X5 from Motorwerks in Minneapolis, it went into production. Boy I wasted a lot of time hoping my local dealer would get a vehicle allocated. I should be in it by the first week of May. Sweet!

Congrats MarkN! Glad they took care of you. If you ever need service there, I know a superb SA at Motorwerks. I'm loving my F15 and your specs blow mine away.

So pissed off. Ordered the car on Thursday 5/1, went into production by Saturday night 5/3 and emailed my dealer to confirm roof rails are high gloss back because the website showed satin aluminum. Well she gets back to me that PO shows high gloss but now that the car is 'in production' they can no longer change it to high gloss rails. I was excited that the completion date was 5/12. Now I'll be pissed if I have to get a production date for a later week as I'm giving back my GL in the next 10-15 days.

There is also a priority code attached to your production order. Ask to see it on the dealer's computer. Mine was a priority 1. Should be here soon. Will post actual dates from start to finish when I get the car. So far it's been a fast, efficient process.
