2013 vs 2014 engine and trans what's wrong with my 2013 328xi

Hi all new poster here. I now own my third BMW 3series. I leased my 2013 328xi w/auto trans in Aug. 2013. I am so unhappy with the performance of this vehicle I'm sick.
Not only is it so noisy at start up, like a pack of squirrels with drumsticks tapping on everything under the hood. It quiets only a little after warm up. Why is my car so embarrassingly loud?
The overall engine sound, power delivery, and shifting in regards to pedal position are terrible.
Well here goes my explanation. My 2013 238xi has the worst shifting and power delivery of any BMWs I've owned.
It's definitely not smooth and it feels like a cheap car. To me it seems that the pedal position, compared to the auto gear selection and power delivery, is that of an old Toyota. I have been to the dealer several times voicing my concern over the way the car feels and drives. Just not like a BMW should.
To me the car eager to down shift too soon and at even a quarter press of accelerator, revving high and not utilizing the lower end torque it has. And to me the shifting, although not slipping, feels all over the place. Like the car is a little confused on where to be.
I've recently driven two 2014 328i loaners and they were amazing! Smooth shifting, continuous power, and an awesome sound. My 2013 sounds so cheap. What did BMW do to the 2014's in terms of exhaust, engine programming, power delivery, transmission ect?
Aren't the 2013 and 14's engine and transmission identical? I tried to get out of my lease and upgrade to a 2014 but it was too costly. A buddy of mine has the same vehicle and has the same complaints.
Anyone else have these issues? Thanks in advance.

oh and of course dealer says its fine... its not

Shaz, I did. Its after driving the 2014s that I notice a huge difference in engine sound, performance and smoothness. My ultimate question is, what did BMW upgrade , change or do different to the 2014s as opposed to what they did on the 2013s or regards to engine transmission and exhaust? Someone with specific technical knowledge might know.
And the cold start up noise is getting louder.

There was no specifically mentioned changes for 2014. BMW is always making small changes to parts for longevity or maintenance reasons but no of the changes, if there were any, would account for the dramatic differences. I had a 2012 that I thought sounded louder then the 2013s, there were probably changes but nothing that BMW published.

Maybe you have a lemon?

Tim

Has it been broken in yet ? I test drove a 13 but bought a 2014 last July. There were no differences in spec sheet mechanically other than that in my 2014 base line I received a sport steering rather than the measly thin steering wheel on 2013 no line models.

Maybe you just need to break it in and see if that makes a difference. Although I would agree that the comfort mode sucks more than even a Camry. I usually slap the stick to the left and drive in comfort so the engine revs faster.

They way you're describing it sounds like the something's not right with the timings in the car. Try to have one of the techs or service advisors test drive yours and one from their lot to see the difference.

My 2012 with 30k miles on it sounds smoother and feels faster than 2014 loaners I have had with very low miles, and the transmission is the best I've ever used. Sounds like something is up with yours...

Thanks tim.

Thanks Shaz. That's something I haven't done. They only had someone from the dhow test drive and he cae back with the " feels fine to me" answer. ***128561;There's no doubt in my mind that if a tech drove mine then a 2014 off the lot, theyd have to be an absolute liar not to admit the difference.
