Input on potential purchase
Iím looking at a 335 in another state that will be CPO and available for pickup soon. I feel the asking price is reasonable (could be priced more aggressively because it already had an extended warranty) and the vehicle history looks fine to me. I was told that itís undergoing conditioning at the body shop which raised a red flag for me. I then started asking for more info and was told that it was a case of someone who apparently couldnít park the car but that there was no major issue. Itís hard to tell whether Iím being told the entire story. I was told there will be no photos available until after the car gets back from the body shop. Assuming I go forward with it, Iíd fly down and either complete the purchase or decide itís not my car. One additional detail is that it was picked up by the dealer at auction. I don't really know the range of cars at auctions, but I've always thought of them as clearing houses for trade-ins that can't be sold by the receiving dealer.
Does anyone else see any red flags here? I have no prior experience with BMW CPO, so I donít know if Iím just being paranoid. If there are minimum criteria that must usually be met to qualify the car for CPO, maybe I can worry a little less about the state of the car prior to being offered. I would assume that if there were any non-cosmetic issues, it would not be a candidate for a CPO.
