Negotiating the price of a 2011 335i

Hi everyone,

Looking to get a 2011 335i soon, but I am not in a rush.

The one I am currently looking at has 20k miles and Performance Package.

It is listed at just under $35k from a dealer. How much do guys think I can chip of the price? Should I wait a few months till the new models come out (as I have been reading that prices usual drop around that time and right now during the spring/summer months the prices are the highest?

My recent experience has been that dealers are generally not moving much on their prices, though it seems to depend on the market you're looking in. I'm looking in the western US and there's quite a lot of variation in price for very similarly equipped cars. CPO adds several thousand. Almost all of the cars I've considered are priced in line with KBB/NADA/etc. for CPO cars. I'm not sure that's necessarily what I should pay, but it's good to see that the market does not seem overly inflated.

I've also found that last month's deal for .9% and $500 in payment credit seems to have taken a toll on inventory.

If this car is "the" car you must have, then see what you can get off the price but ultimately don't let it slip away. Based on the tone of your post it sounds like this is not the car you must have, so wait it out and if it sells there will be another car for you to buy down the road.

Prices drop in October.

Chip the price? Uh, offer less....see what happens. If you're looking for excuses to lower the price, do an independent pre-purchase inspection.

figure out what you will pay. Have a check made out for the amount to the dealer, without a signature, hand it to the salesperson and see if they budge.
works every time I have bought a car
seems cash in hand can work wonders

you cant like offer them 10K less, but a decent check and I bet you drive it home

I was thinking putting $15k down. Is that what you mean by 10k less?

I purchased on the last day of the month, March 31st and they seemed eager to make a deal. My 2011 335i with 22k miles, sport package, no navigation was just under 33k with CPO. It's a 6 speed, possibly the best car I have ever owned...maybe better than my 2008 535i. If the car has the specs, colors, etc you like just go for it.

Not a bad price for 22k miles. A dealership in San Diego had a CPO 2011 335i sport package, 39k miles, & no navi for $26k at .09% financing. You can save a few hundred if you have them remove the factory alarm. From my experience with BMW dealerships, they won't knock off more than $1,000. Take it for a test drive. If you like it, buy it.
