ID:	437012 would it be cheaper to change this light myself or let Carmax do it for $52? Is this light hard to change?

you can buy H8 lamp for $15 at autozone or $6 at rock auto. it is very simple to change. there are lot of you tube videos on how to change , they also called angle lights.

$52 to change the bulb isn't horrible if you don't have the tools or the time. But this is one of those projects that you can do yourself... So if you can, why not?

It is under the hood and all you need is flat screwdriver. Local BMW repair shop asked $30.

Stealership H8 charge

My halo ring bulb died on my '08 E93. With a BMW CCA discount, I paid $38 at a BMW stealership.
Is it a bettewr bulb than an Auto Zone version at half the price?

I changed my halo bulb in an e92 a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't difficult, but the video advice and online advice about which way to turn the bulb was contradictory. I had some difficulty getting the old bulb out. I used a screwdriver to lever the bulb in the turn and ended up breaking some of the plastic bulb before I got it out. I wouldn't do that again. On the passenger side, the bulb rotates to the right toward the engine to get it out. There isn't a lot of room for my hand, and i had a tough time getting a good grip on the bulb. I disconnected the wire connector from the bulb first and that was probably a mistake. Keeping the connector on would give you a better place to grip the bulb and turn it. Take your time and you will be ok. The main thing is not to break the headlight housing. That would be really expensive to fix.
