E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

E30 V8 swap

Apologies is this is an overdone topic.
I have an 89' E30 318i, now I know I'm going to need to do some extensive drivetrain, suspension and exhaust work, but I've seen several people put a big 'ol V8 in the old 3 series and I was looking at some options aside from the LS1 in terms of fit, function and power. If anyone could also give a genral price estimate then cheers.

Was thinking along those lines, especially with an older motor, like a VX/VY LS motor or AU 5.4

Guy around the corner from me has a 5.0 motor in his e30 and hates it. gearing doesn't jive to well in that car.. car is really heavy in the nose. He wants his bmw motor back but already sold it lol. Unless you wanna go fast in a straight line I wouldn't recommend it. And if you do wanna go fast in a straight line then why pick a car with independent rear suspension?

I was originally thinking about the S14, but I want a bit more grunt. The straight six out of the E24 looked good, butmy mate reckons that, with a proper coilover setup with strut braces and other sorcerey the weight should be fine.
