Saw the E90 - Just ordered 05' ZHP

After looking at the E90 pics, I put down a deposit for a ZHP

Imola Red
Nav
Cloth Alcantara
Silver Cube
Xenon
Cold Package
Moonroof (standard)
$42,800 out the door

The E90 interior looked horrible in the pics. I despise iDrive. The exterior is....meh.

And a 30HP increase but no increase in torque = a marketing move

Nice choice, did you get the $3500 incentive?

I wish I had the money to Euro Deliver one in spring.

This is non-Euro delivery. What do you mean by 3500 incentive?

Here is the breakdown:

$43,795 - MSRP
$41,075 - 330i + options
$18,500 - Trade in
$1,354 - 6% tax (only paid on balance after the trade in, saved $1,110)
$339.20 - other misc fees
$42,768 - out the door

I guess you owe all 18500 on your trade If not I am not seeing how this is a good deal

I own my 325Ci. The value of my trade ($18500) is subtracted from the cost of the new car. So I only pay tax on the difference ($23268) which saves me $1110 in tax.

My bad, forgot you are getting an '05, so there is no incentive. $2800 off is not bad though.

I'm also confused, it you got 18500 for your trade in, how can your total out the door be
42,768? The trade wasn't deducted from your out the door figure?

Good call on the 05 ZHP in my opinion.

The E90 looks a bit more sedate.

The trade in was deducted pre-tax, so I saved $1110 in taxes.

Correct, but I can't look at it that way. The car cost me $42,768

Sorry for the confusion

I'd say that prolly depends on what the original cost of the 325ci trade in was....

Regardless, he negotiated a purchase price of $1000 over invoice on the '05... That's a great deal!

But what if he was underpaid $3000 for his trade in? I'm not saying that's the case, but there is no way to determine what he "paid" for the car without knowing the value of the trade.

I could have gotten $20 for my 325Ci trade in. However I don't have a 2nd car so I wouldn't be able to sell it until I take delivery of the ZHP sedan, and I would be forced into putting $42+ on the ZHP.

It's still not a done deal. I can decide to keep the 325 and sell it privately after I take delivery. I'll just have to borrow $40K up front. Keeping my options open....

EDIT- but if I sold it privately, I would lose the $1100 tax savings.

Thanks guys.

When I got the Ci I assumed that I would only be giving my GF a ride, and occasionaly a friend or 2. But somehow I keep getting suckered into driving everywhere- Six Flags, camping in the Catskills, trips to the Hapmtons (guess that's how I got to 50K in 2.5 years, I always give up way to easily )

Anyways, I got sick and tired of letting people in and out of the back.....that won't be a prob anymore.

So where's that BDSG? (BMW Delivery Support Group) Luckily this time I have my Ci to keep me company until the ZHP comes in, so it will be considerably easier

Did you look at the specs? Torque is flat from 2500-4000 rpm. The power band is wider too (peak power is 6,650 rpm). May not be important for you, granted.

Sound gorgeous - good move imho on staying in the e46 for a while.

Money's money - The price you got on the ZHP is a good one. If you've got some time before the arrival, you could try to sell the 325 for the trade in price, plus the $1100 tax, plus some money for your troubles, or you can just bring it in and drive home in the new car.

When I bought my ZHP, I sold a very nice 535 to make room for it. I could have gotten maybe another thousand in sale price for the 535. Fact is, I saw what I could get as a deal on my ZHP ($409 per month at $2500 down on a lease), and ordered one. I had never even SAT in an e46 sedan at that point, nor had I seen a ZHP in anything more than a magazine. I called my mechanic and sold the 535 in one phone call. Was it worth the thousand in sale price to NOT run advertisements and deal with tire kickers and test drives and be in the new car inside of 10 days? For me it sure as hell was. I don't have time for that crap, and my effective hourly rate hits a thousand bucks real fast when it means time away from my kids.

So do what feels right for you, and enjoy the **** out of the new car!

He's also forgetting that it's a completely new engine with a lot of new features like magnesium aluminium block, valvetronic etc, it's not just a simple marketing move. Anyway, what do I know...

I'm sure the new engine is sweeter, if not just as sweet, as the E46. But I don't want to be one of the 1st to work out the bugs on the E90.

I'll wait for the 400HP V8!
