Talking mod-CDV, where've you been all my LIFE?!

Chris from San Jose switched out my CDV this morning (great job!) and WOW... what a difference!! Amazing that such a small mechanical change can have such an impact to the enduser!!

Would appreciate if you could describe how the car feels after surgery compared to before.
I've read other posted info on CDV, but they gave me an impression of a mild, subtle change in feel.

Dont get me wrong...It doesnt feel faster, but simply...the clutch is reproducible and more respondant. The 1-2 shift tended to be a bit jerky at times (very mild, but annoying)...now it just engages...no fussiness. It kinda feels like taking the governor off the go-kart when you were 12!

Hell, I was excited nontheless.

You don't have to vary the rate of the clutch pedal, especially just before it's fully engaged. The herky-jerkiness of the low gear upshifts are gone. Using the clutch pedal becomes more intuitive and moves even more into the subconscious.

As comic book guy would say...

Dave will send you one if you send him 2.

I have a modified one in my 325. When my ZHP arrives, I'm just going to remove it.

How do you like it in your 325? Will this lead to premature clutch wear? What labor time wise on swapping them out?

Lets put it this way, as soon as I get home from the dealer with the ZHP, I'm pulling out the jack and jack stands.

As for clutch wear, my 325 has 50K on the original clutch. I did the CDVectomy at 30K.

How do I like it? Scroll up and read my post above

EDIT - here's a good DIY

I been reading conflicting results from the CDV removal, some say it makes a big difference while others seem to notice very little difference. I received my modified CDV a couple months ago but haven't install it yet due to lack of free time, but hopefully I will get around to it soon so I can test it out myself!

Like anything in life, you can't let the hype get to you. It's not like removing the CDV will get you 60 lb/ft of extra torque. It's a good mod at zero cost if you just get rid of it.

Ditto to that - I swapped mine out on October 21st. Didn't want to post an opinion until I had time to really work with it a little bit. What do I think?

Buh-Bye Uncle Buck!

The 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are much more smooth, and repeatable. Particularly when the engine is cold, the 1-2 and 2-3 shift were painfully hard to modulate into smoothness. Now things engage where you want them to, based on where your foot is. That's how it's supposed to be.

Are you sure you even have one?

I had a look under my car (Nov 2000 build 330i) today and I don't have one. My clutch line looks like tim330i's in the following thread:
