Looking at the pictures and car fax everything look clean. It had only one owner no accidents. Would it be a good choice to buy it ? so far this was the cheapest one i found.

What is your risk/reward threshold? How mechanically savvy are you?

Are you going to pee your panties if the check engine light comes on and the local indy garage tells you that a Vanos solenoid needs to be replaced?

In part, one needs to consider, "How many things did the previous owner already replace, and at what mileage?"

With 167k miles, one might assume that the water pump has been replaced one or two times, depending upon when they failed...at 60K and 120K, or at 80k and 160k. In case 1 you could assume another failure likely in the not-distant future; in case 2 you probably have a while before another water pump is needed.

When were idlers on pulleys (AC, power steering) replaced?
When were hoses and belts replaced last?
When was the fuel pump replaced last?

etc. etc.

Having a full history of service work would reduce the guesswork of when any of this stuff will be needed in the future. Cars with that mileage have lots of things break in the 100-140k mileage period...how many of them were done, and when? Once in a while you hear from someone that has needed almost none of the stuff, so the odds of needing it soon are lower...you WILL need them!

Don't forget the suspension. 167K means likely issues as to shocks, bushings, etc. You would absolutely want to spend the money to have a competent and qualified BMW shop take a look at everything. Do not have somebody you find from a Google search come do a quick walk around inspection for $100.

Maybe for $4k and then when the tranny goes you will have plenty of parts to sell to recoup the $4k.
