BMW 325e project. worth it or not?

Hello Bimmerfest.
i am new to this forum, i am also clueless in the bmw world. But i have basic knowledge in the automotive world. Anyway my mother owns a 1987 bmw that was her first car purchased by my grandfather back in the 80s. back in 1998 it had a blown head gasket according to my mother all though she is not 100 % sure. the car has been sitting in my garage ever since. we had planned to just sell it cheap and it get it out the way. but after doing some research and seeing what the car can look like I'm thinking about keeping. the car does not turn over and will not start at all even with a new battery, thats all i really tried honestly. i am not a mechanic so all work will be done at a friends shop for a good price. my first thought was to just install a whole new motor. i am looking for some advice on what i should do as far as steps taking and to take the right steps.

It's possible the timing belt blew a long time ago which may explain your problem, don't know, difficult to say. Call an independent BMW mechanic and see what they recommend. If the car has no rust and you don't have to do much then yes. If you have to do the interior and major engine rebuild I would pass. But they are great cars.

i agree with downhiller. seized motor may be the problem. but inspect your starter motor. make sure all cables are in place.

Downhiller is correct, most likely seized and/or timing belt. It's in not bad of a condition, got the same car and color myself, dropping an e34 5 series motor.. it's an newer motor that can fit into e30s, with a little bit of adjustment. In my eyes it's worth it. Body's good except that fender. Btw welcome! And don't forget research is your best friend lol

Sounds dumb, but in your picture the car isn't in park, most cars wont turn over unless the car is in park for safety reasons.

Report back OP. Generally if the timing belt breaks then the car will still turn over, but will sound funny/turn really fast.
