2007 BMW 328XI won't start. Overheated

I was driving on the freeway today and my over heating light when off. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder. Waited about 20 mins and added some coolant as it was a bit low.

I waited about 20 minutes longer and now my car won't start. When I press the start stop button it just clicks. Is there a sensor somewhere that has to be reset. I called BMW when the car overheated to ask them what to do and they told me just to wait and add coolant.

I hate that these cars do not have a temp gauge on the dash. If I would have noticed a rise on the dash I would have been able to troubleshoot this issue before hand. I had my car serviced about a month ago. Im assuming they didn't add the correct amount of coolant because there is no signs of water pump issues or leaks. Car experienced a bit of power loss when I pulled over.

Sounds like your battery died. It was probably on its way out and since your radiator fan was on full blast, it most likely drained the battery.

Since you have a manual, you can just push start it.

But I would just tow it. You're going to damage the engine if you continue to try and drive it

Mechanic is telling me the starter needs to be replaced. I never had an issue with the starter before. Is the starter and issue that I had with the coolant somehow related?

CHARGE the battery first!! You should not start throwing parts at the car - do the simplest thing and get a full charge in the battery.

Every garage should have a battery charger in it.

Believe me I told him to: he told me he did. I told him i want to be there when he puts the starter in because if it that's not the issue I'm not paying for it
