Exclamation Exhaust Emission Test Light - glows in Yellow

Hi,
I reside in California, and drive a BMW 325i 2006.

Recently this May I have the service light
Exhaust Emission Test light glowing. And I have recently completed my Smog test and it passed.

What should I do next, should I reset the light? If yes, how? Or should I take the car back to the smog test shop to get it fixed.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Vikas

Well, before you are arrested on a felony pollution charge, you should read codes to determine where the issue lies. Do NOT go to Autozone, Pep Boys, Sears, or any of their ilk. No. Use Bavarian Technic or GT1 scanner to check.

Failure to repair may time out to a red warning, also initiating a wireless report to Law Enforcement with GPS tracking activated. Beware, brother. Beware!

If you live in Cali, doesn't your BMW have a lengthy emission system warranty. Don't quote me but thought I had read on bimmerfest that is was on the order of 80,000 miles. Now your car being a 2006, you may be well past this mileage. Like cal suggests, get the codes man.

Did the light come on immediately after the smog test? If so, that could be normal and only needs some driving around for the light to clear itself.

Hi all:

I have checked with the BMW folks here in Mountain View and they asked me to reset the counter to 2050. Since California state laws doesnt require this test to be done. What we have is the SMOG test, and if your vehicle has passed it, you are good. Secondly even the SMOG test is requested by the DMV, and you do that once in two years.

Thanks to all for your messages.
