Question Door Lock Striker Cover

There 2 types of strike covers for BMW:

On F25 there is so called wide model. There a lot of photos of narrow covers installed, but none for wide model. Does anyone have a cover on his car and share a photo?

It's hard to believe someone thought of such a thing.

Why do you need a cover for the door latch? Do you drive with the door open?
