2011 x3

I am in the market for BMW X3I have done research and the ones I have found varied with miles from 26,000-49,000..Should I be worried about buying a X3 with 49,500 miles on it?

Any help would be great!!
Chris

I'm getting close to 40,000 miles in my 2011 28X3. No issues to report. A couple of software updates in 2012 fixed the accelerator delay. Really no complaints, and the X3 is a great vehicle to drive.

We have a 2011 X3 35i. Love it, no issues or problems of note. Would buy another without a second thought. That said, get the Carfax and check it out closely. Still is a big investment.

My '11 35i has 42,000 miles on it, with no issues. Keep in mind that at 49,500 miles you're only 500 miles from the end of the mileage part of standard warranty, and may already be beyond the time part, depending on when the '11 was originally sold. I'm rapidly approaching the point where I have to decide if I want to purchase an extended warranty for mine.

is the car a CPO? get the vin# and take it to a bmw dealer for the service history. my '11 had +28,000 miles on it now it has 45,000. very small cosmetic issues, most replaced under warranty, a bad comfort access door handle that got replaced with a new car battery. so far the car has been very reliable.

I just purchased a 2011 and I was struggling with this issue, too. In the end I decided that I wanted one that would still give me one year (or close to that) of the original warranty before the CPO kicked in. It took me forever to find what I wanted, but I did find one with just over 25,000 miles on it. Besides the warranty, I wouldn't really worry about the miles. In 2007 I purchased an '04 with 38,000 miles on it and just traded it with 106,000 miles.

I agree with the others that you should check the service history, think about the warranty thing (factor that into any price negotiations), and good luck!!!

Just saw the 2014 consumer report auto issue - 2011 had black spot against it. SO what they say that it may not unreliable but prone to more issues since this is first year of remodel. 2012 and 2013 had half black circles. I have another year to mull over the extended warranty - might be good but who knows if it will be a waste of money.

i do not have the issue in front of me (it's at home), but if I recall, CR had an issue with the turbo engine only in the X3 for 2011-2012 and not the 2.8 engine that I have in my 2012.

That is a very typical remark for CR. If it isn't a Honda or whatever their flavor of the week is, they always have some negative remark. I do not consider them a reliable and unbiased source.

You're correct about the turbo. The non-turbos were perhaps half black...anyway BMWs are at most clear circles and perhaps never see the red circles.... Could they ever produce Reliable Driving machines or is it a Oxymoron

Well there is some bit of truth there......no magzines/reviews ever give a BMW a reliable status...my 2 cents

Which of course makes them all unreliable at least, unless by some quirk of marketing one of them grants a BMW model a positive review in any aspect.

The 2011 & 2013 non-turbos are rated Average (clear circle) by CR. The 2011-2013 turbos are rated full black or half black.

Bought mine 28ixdrive about a year ago. Two main issues so far- one was covered by CPO the other was not, and one issue was not diagnosed yet (see this thread here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=772543

So, my first issue was within 2 months of having the car- the TPM broke- replaced by CPO.

The second issue I took it in for today was my trunk latch stopped working from the outside. The only way to open the trunk was with the key. Non-cpo item because it was caused by "corrosion." $150 dollar fix. I also had to replace the spark plugs and the transfer case oil (have 62k miles). Both non-CPO issues...

Not trying to scare you off- we like the vehicle very much, but like I said in my other thread, it was our first german car and I expected a bit more to be honest.
