Windshield wiper / motor

The wipers on our 2006 330i no longer stop or rest at the lowest position, but now stop about an inch or two on the up sweep.

We had the same thing happen on our 2010 535 wagon a couple months ago. They replaced the wiper motor which appears to be the fix and was covered under the factory warranty. Unfortunately our 330 is out of warranty and asked the same SA, assuming it needs a new motor, what would be the total cost. SA indicated about $1000. About equal cost for part and labor. I also asked if he has seen a lot of this and he indicated some but not a lot. I thought it is odd that it has occurred on both of our cars within a couple months of each other.

Have others had the same or similar issues, and if so, was it a new motor as the only fix? For a $1000, I think we can live with the current situation. The wipers otherwise still work in all modes.

The wiper arms sit on a splined shaft. I believe it's held on by a 13mm nut. If you loosen this nut and pry the arm off the shaft, you can reposition it on the splines.
