Picked up my 2011 335is last weekend

Had been driving my 2000 328Ci with Dinan upgrades for years. Sold it a year ago, and finally decided to picke up a 2011 335is with all the fixin's. Opted for the 6-speed manual over a DCT, what can I say, I'm old-school like that.

Car is absolutely mint inside and out, can't believe anyone even owned it before me!

Staring down my brother's e92 M3 'vert

Sweet ride, bro! The N54 motor is the one to have and it's nice BMW never changed over to N55 for the 335IS models after 2010 like the other 335s were. Only bettered by the new inline 6T coming in the new M3/4s.

I'd say slap a tune on your new 'IS and your brother with his M will be a bit worried but then again the 335IS is so perfect the way it is...why mess with, well, perfection!

Its quite disturbing to see both nice cars have drilled front plates to the bumper. Here in IL, front plates are required but most of the nice lux cars dont have them on. Even bmw dealers will give you the look if you opt to drill them.

Nonetheless, nice pick up.

Yeah, unfortunately the law of the land where I live, ask how I know why, as I started with mine off and no holes till I got my second ticket and then sadly thought F it to adding more local revenue to my municipality than just taxes.

Just keep the housing plate as small as possible or none at all and live with it, if we must.

People don't like the front plate? I had that mod installed special, adds at least 15 hp.

Something I'll have to live with unfortunately.

Definitely plan to change out the reflectors though. Too bad it's not a simple swap like on my old e46. The DIY I saw involved a hair dryer, glue, and taking off the wheels

I bought a California car (mandatory front plate state) my dealer has a mobile guy who eliminated those pesky holes. Nevada says you have to have a front plate if there is somewhere to mount it. But like our tint laws they don't seem care much about petty things like that. Nice cars btw. Love the 355is. Considered the style 313's instead of the 199's I ended up buying.

No plate since 04 never a ticket or a look and I live in Ct. where they grub every last buck. Blow dryer and an old gift card or one of those pre paid visa's (Not as thick as a CC) works like a charm. Good luck with the auto I neglected to relay that message

Question for the other 335is owners, but this car didn't end up coming with Active Cruise from the factory, did it?

All of the early reviews said it would be standard, but I don't see it on here, so I'm guessing it was scrapped in the production models?

Nice. Congratulations. Just like my ride except for the manual. I opted for the DCT.

Hahahahaha. I moved to Florida where front plates are not required so I'm filling the holes with plugs. I didn't realize it was a downgrade.

Besides the stock suspension, the rest of the car is awesome. I wished I had gone with the manual too. Unfortunately they were few and far between, and I got tired of looking for a car. The DCT was replaced in mine at less than 50k miles, so I am not too thrilled at the long term potential of the DCT.

Why was your DCT replaced so soon?

A noise at idle. 12k to repair. I can't remember if that was parts and labor or just parts. Factory warrantied.

Taking off the wheels??? I never did that. If you remove them in the summer you won't even need the hair dryer - just a credit card.

My concern now is that when I move to California they might make me put back the reflectors because a car without them is in violation of federal law.

Wow. That's expensive. Definitely don't want to own these cars out of warranty. 45,000 on my DCT right now. CPO until 2017.

Opps got the manual transmission in my 335is, partly because the manual was more fun during the test drive and partly because of concerns over the cost of replacing the DCT if it should fail. I understand that BMW does not repair the DCTs but rather just replaces them at a cost of around $13,000.

Driving a manual is no great shakes in stop and go traffic but then neither is shelling out $13K.

You were lucky it failed while in warrantee.
