Perhaps my question was not as clear as it should have been.

When I say a "passive" system I mean a system that indicates, usually with a light and perhaps a sound, that there is a car in your blind spot. When I say an "active" system I mean a system that actively discourages you from changing lanes if there is a car in your blind spot. Some cars vibrate the steering wheel to do this, or use other active measures.

Cars that provide the first type of system seem to be increasingly common, even among non-luxury brands. Luxury brands usually offer the first type as a lower cost option and, in addition, offer the second type at greater expense. See the Audi A6, for example.

I am planning to get a 2015 535i and would like to get the first type of blind spot warning system. I am trying to figure out what options I need to order to accomplish this.

Thanks.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/car-dr...dangerous1.htm will explain the difference between active and passive.

So yes they have an active Blindspot detection
No the USA does not have a passive Blindspot detection
Yes there is an active lane departure warning system
No the system down not pull you back in the lane like Mercedes does but it does provide a visual warning and vibration in the steering wheel

Driving with instinct: the BMW 5 Series Sedan provides discreet support and active assistance to help avoid dangerous situations. Radars and cameras monitor conditions and warn the driver of lane changes and vehicles coming too close.
At the rear of the vehicle the Active Blind Spot Detection uses radar sensors to inform the driver via a symbol on the wing mirror if there is a vehicle currently in their blind spot or if a vehicle is approaching quickly from the rear. As soon as the driver uses the indicator to change lanes, they are warned in potentially dangerous situations by a flashing LED signal and vibrations.

The camera positioned at the front of the vehicle assists the Lane Departure Warning system. When travelling above 43 mph the system monitors road markings and their position versus the car as well as the edge of the road or lane. The system is activated whenever the vehicle leaves its current lane unintentionally and alerts the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate. When the driver indicates an intention to change the lane by using the indicator, there is no warning signal.

Does anyone know if the new standard LED foglights will be similar in appearance to those on the Modern/Luxury lines of 2014, i.e. part of the black plastic/chrome under the bumper?

Is the sold black plastic with simple horizontal chrome line through it from the base MY2014 completely gone now?

Also, the chrome rear bumper strip from the Modern/Luxury lines--is that also now standard across the board, or will it only be in the Luxury line?

Thanks.

I love the wheels on my modern line 535. I almost got the M sport, but it seemed that around here, that was all I saw for 535s, so I decided to go different. Glad I did

The first post is saying 6NS is standard but the guide shows 500 dollars for it. Is that a typo?

The pricing guide list the SOP (start of production) as 7/14.

That looks like a typo from BMW. I've fixed it now, thanks for the heads up.

Tim - I agree with you that the guide lists SOP at 7/14. However, our 2015 535i started production on June 18 and finished on June 30. It seems that BMW Germany started production earlier than published.

I take it then that you special ordered your BMW? May I ask how long that takes, from the time you order to delivery?

IMO, one must always special order a bimmer. There is no point of picking one off the dealer's lot as one invariably compromises on something or the other. Wouldn't building a house with all the desired features only and nothing extra be better than buying a pre constructed one if there is zero effort involved and it makes no difference in the cost? Almost 100% of the bimmer enthusiasts who get new bimmer go this route. IMO, once you go this route, you will never turn around.

We ordered our 2015 model year car around the last week of May. When we ordered, BMW was producing 2014 models so ours was a future model and we knew that the production can not begin immediately. The production was scheduled to start in July but it actually started early. So in about 3.5 weeks time, our production had started. The car is expected to be at the dealer's lot around August 10.

Usually a F10 goes into production within a week if BMW is already producing that year model.

Any idea on when the "bmwusa.com" site will be updated with the 2015 F10? It still shows 2014 MY when you go to build it.

Thanks

Bluetooth Audio Streaming Clarification: 6NH vs. 6NS

  • LED fog lights
  • Enhanced Bluetooth and USB + Smartphone Integration (6NH) is now standard
  • Comfort Access is now standard on 550i and 550i xDrive models.
OP - Could you update the the original post to note that 6NH is called "Hands-free Bluetooth and USB audio connection", per the Ordering and Pricing guides?

I think there might be some confusion out there because 6NS is actually called "Enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone Integration," and is a $500 option on all 5 Series.

The following thread has a good discussion of the differences: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=778185

Good modification to the text, I've tweaked the OPs post now. Funny thing is that the text is from BMW (I updated the OPs post once already). They can't even keep their own silly marketing terms right.

Well, the BYO 2015 is finally updated, I was hoping that the stitching patterns from the black dakota wouldn't carry over to the black nappa. Would've preferred a solid look without the contrast stitching, can that be deleted? If not, I may finally decide to go with amaro brown.

Looks like they have removed the Auto start/stop feature. It doesn't show up in the build pictures...If you take a closer look at the seats by zooming in, they still look like Dakota leather. Not sure if BMW is updating the pictures in phases.
