Dealer broke my window regulator

I have a 2006 325i that got recalled over a front passenger floor mat sensors or something. I take it in an miraculously my rear driver windows regulator breaks. I live in a hot climate and almost never roll down that window so I have no idea how they broke it. Is there a reason that window needs to be rolled down for this recall or are they just breaking my car to recoup the loss? Can I make them to fix their mistake at their expense?

The recall is for the passenger seat mat sensor.

You will have a hard time proving the dealer broke the regulator, if they actually did.

It's not uncommon for shops to roll the windows down so they can reach in without opening the door or pass a diagnostic cable through so they can access the car's OBDII port.

You will need to have proof the window was working before bringing it in, which is highly unlikely. Unfortunately, there's not much else you can do.

Check the fuses before bringing the car in

Odds are that your window was on the verge of failing when you brought it in and they did nothing to hasten its demise. BMW window regulators are notoriously prone to crap out.

Unfortunately I'm inclined to agree. My guess would also be that it was ready to let go and the shop just had the misfortune of using the window that final time, which was more likely to be the case since you say you do not open them very often. How do you feel about a little DIY job?
