Steering Wheel Shaking at Highspeeds/Downhills

Ok guys my 2008 328xi has a shakey sterring wheel at highspeeds and I notice it also when going down hills at moderate speed (40-50km/hr).

Some history:
I hit a pothole this winter causing me to crack a rim; it was a hard hit unfortunately. I replaced the mounts and struts due to the hit. When replacing them they noticed my ball joint was bent causing my steering wheel to be a bit crooked. I'm just waiting for the ball joint to be shipped and Im hoping that solves it?

My wheels don't need balancing as I just got my summer tires on and they did it then. Im not sure if maybe I'm getting some rub from the tires not being perfectly aligned, or if that would cause it to shake?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Bent wheels can balance perfectly, but they can still cause vibrations in the car. So don't rule wheels/tires out.

Worn suspension bushings can cause vibrations. The tension struts are known to fail early on BMWs and Mini Coopers. Check those bushings.

I doubt the ball joint is causing the issue. You should be replacing suspension parts in pairs, meaning left and right pairs.

Thanks for the reply!! Is there any risk or residual risk to driving like this if anything above is the case? Driving 2hrs out of town this weekend wouldn't be able to get it fixed in time.

Short term no, long term yes.

Vibrations accelerate bushing wear
