Slipping Gearbox.

Hi Folks,

Apologies first off if I am duplicating content. In which case I would love to get a thread link.

I have a problem.

The gearbox on my 330D is slipping. The slipping occurs in the first 3 gears I think.
Its due to go into BMW to see what the problem is.

Having read around a bit about this it appears that the transmission fluid could do with a change ? Its done 97,000 miles and this problem has manifest in the last week. Suddenly.
I have been at traffic lights and gone to pull off only to see the rev counter rise with no power.

To make matters even worse I think I have noticed a leak under the car.

BMW cant take the car for 2 weeks and I wondered if I should drive the thing at all in that time. Is BMW gonna quote 'no transmission change necessary' at me as I have read in some forums ?

Has anyone got any advice for a newbie ?

Thanks in advance...

BMW's LIFETIME transmission fluid now quitely changed to 100k mi. Most consider that a maximum, with no penalty to changing earlier.

Also, cure that leak! Sounds like your fluid's low.

If your trans is slipping due to low fluid, STOP DRIVING IT. The two worst things for an automatic are heat and low fluid.

Thank you for the warning. I will definitely heed it.

Just got off phone to BMW.

A transmission flush in their eyes requires 10litres / liters of oil.
There has been no mention of the filter, though I will likely push to have a conversation about that at the time.

Cost of this in the uk is around 500gbp. Not cheap.
