335xi what does it cost when stuff breaks?

I already have seen the schedule maintenance cost that does not seem too bad at all. My bigger concern is what does it realistically cost when parts break major and minor? If anyone would like to share from there first hand experiences that would be greatly appreciated.

FYI I would be going through independent shops not the dealer and would definitely shop around for best price.

Also is the 335xi pretty durable. I tend to beat on cars pretty bad and also would like to be able to take the car to the track on occasions. Had to rebuild the transmission on my Scion TC. Have needed lots of new parts in past, etc.

Getting a car with warranty is out of question as I will be putting on aftermarket exhaust and stage 1 or 2 tune.

Thanks

Dude! Are you an account or what? That is an impressive list of details! Who could have a problem with their BMW with that attention?

Ignoring routine maintenance and the usual replacements (tires, brakes, belts, hoses, etc), I only spent close to $7000 on parts (discounted via BMW CCA membership) and labor (dealer price breaks on service labor) on my (less complex) E46 in the 40K mile interval from about 95000 to 135000 miles!

I was about to about the $7000 for the E46, but then I noticed you paid the dealer. So that was what, one small job?

Seriously though, what the hell did you spend $7,000 on in 40k miles? I owned my E46 for 5 years and 90k miles, and my total, including routine maintenance, was MUCH less than half of $7K.

I owned the car from new...delivery in Munich. So I CARED for the car because I knew I would have it for 10 years or more (actually 13 years!)

600 oil filter gasket
180 winshield washer pump
690 tensioner belt pulley
250 A/C tensioner
270 fuel filter
535 oil level sensor
700 water pump
240 thermostat
480 valve cover gasket
150 alternater idler
760 cyclone separator
700? fuel pump
1000 hoses of various sorts including A/C, power steering
550 coolant expansion tank

I owned an E30 for about the same amount of time, and spent about $4000 during the same interval. The E46, unlike the E30, did not give me respite from expense and that is why I sold it!!!

-------------------
My 2001 330xi probably cost about the same, but it had one extreme case of a front differential failing - $2500 parts+labor. It also had costs for a front wheel bearing, and costs for front CVJ cover replacements. I traded it in at 145K partly because I was worried that the transfer case was beginning to fail - that would have cost $3500 (I no longer do that heavy stuff) plus I would have spend another $1K for a new clutch to take advantage of the tranny being dropped.
