Smile 2007-2008 335i are the injectors and turbos a reason not to buy one?

Hello,

I have been looking to buy a 335i coupe. I saw three 2007 [auto with 50K; 6 speed with 70K and auto with 86K] and one 2008 auto with 80K miles and a bumper to bumper extended warranty including wheels and tires until September 2014. This car is in immaculate condition with every possible option and tasteful cosmetic upgrades.

An indie shop told me to stay away from 335s because of injectors and turbos constant failure. Is that true, even if the car has been meticulously cared for?

Please advise,

Best regards,

Orazio

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........no.

Mayhap Indy believes BMW can have a best seller with constant injector & turbo failure. Oy!

I have a 2008 335 and sure enough I had to replace my fuel injectors (not cheap).
About 60K miles.

Bmw seems to want to do maintenance yearly on fuel injectors.
I always get a salesman, pushing me to do that.

I've probably had $3,000 in repairs in almost a year and half.
So be warned.

And one more thing... I was averaging 19 mpg until I go the fuel injectors replaced.

Now I am closer to 23mpg.
I guess it's better than nothing.

The wide spread problems are fixed at this point. Just make sure all warranty work has been done. Also there is a BMW extended warranty on hpfp (2006-2010) and injectors (2006-2008) for (I think) 10 years 100k. I'm not certain on the dates, cross check with any model you might buy. Are there still a few people that have an issue with these parts, yes. However, no more than any other bad part that crops up in modern cars. N4S

I just acquire a 2007 E93 335I and I asked my SA about the injectors and they are under warranty to 100K miles. No matter the years that have pass by. I have had this SA for a while now. I have been going to this specific dealership for a while. Since I traded my last 5 series and started driving 3 series. from a E36 to a E46 to a E90 and now a E93. So I am hoping that this is the truth. If anybody out there have different information on it please share it with us. Thank You.

I've never heard of an extended warranty based on mileage alone. Usually, it's something like a 100,000 mile/10 year deal. I hope that it is mileage only since I put very few miles on my 2008 335i e93 and I plan to keep it a while.

No. BMW now understands the problems and can truly fix them.

Misterjim, I have to go into my dealership tomorrow and will ask SA and will attempt to call him right now to verify the 100K/ 10 years. I am pretty sure you are right but let's find out.

CPO 100K miles/ 6 years from the date of purchase.

To identify the problem the late 2007 and early 2008 335's had some injector failures which should have been corrected by now. Turbos seldom fail unless you blow oil past the seals which you can do in this car when cold like 30's or below. The seals have a slight opening in the top and when cold the pressure relief valve doesn't do its job until warm so if you are hard on it cold the oil can and will push past the seals and you will start coking the turbo.
However if you just let the engine warm so the oil temp is off the mark you are fine. BMW was and is replacing the turbos for waste gate rattle which will typically go away when the engine is warm but is annoying when the engine is first started and warming up.

Some items you might want to keep in mind is the water pump and tstat life which is around 60K miles. ABS/DSC/Brake light issue with an issue tracked down to a Bosch electric motor that drives the hydraulic pump. Oil filter housing gasket will eventually leak and need replaced.

Not many cars can pull the power the 335 can and can be built up to be an impressive package.

Warranty to 100K or 6 years is helpful but you might want to look for a longer year warranty if you don't drive the miles out at the 6 year point...

I can't believe this is true, as I paid to have them replaced at 60K.
Are you saying they covered under original warranty up to 100K miles?

Some injectors are covered under the extended warranty, some are not. Check the model number/date to see if yours are from one of the problem batches. Mine for example were not, even though some injectors used during my car's model year were bad. HPFP and injectors are subject to a time element in the warranty as well as miles. I think it is 10 years. The waste gate/turbo is extened to 8 years and 80k (?). The wide spread issues are fixed by now. Anything new happening is a small chance bad part which can happen to any part. N4S

Using the provided drop-down selector shows an "exact fit" for your '07 335i as well as for my '11 335is.

If tested and it doesn't fit, the fault lies with Advance Auto.

I think the HPFP issues with the 335 gave the model a bad rap. Talking to my indy as well as reading the forums, the E90 is solid platform to include the 335.

I went to BMW South and was told that it is true, that the turbos and HPFP have an extended warranty of 10yr/100K miles. Nevertheless, I will try to get a copy of the factory bulletin.

Extended warranties

My indy shop recommends GMC, BMW South recommends EasyCare. Who bought an extended warranty?
