M5 E60 help needed fuel pressure mystery

Hey all.

I've got a BMW m5 E60 2005 model. At 3k rpm with sport button on or off, at high rpm the management light comes on and I get 'engine fault reduced power'.

I know what you're thinking - heard it all before - but mine is more of a mystery.

I've replaced fuel filter with brand new one - didn't solve it.

Replaced fuel pump with 2nd hand one from 2007 low mileage M5 - didn't solve it.

Reset adaptations by main dealer - didn't solve it.

I'm getting fault code 2788 by itself and I've been told that fuel pressure at idle is too high, and fuel pressure at high rpm is too low.

Next step is replacement of the fuel pump control module. I'm guessing at this because it sounds as though the pump is receiving dodgy signals.

Anyone offer any further advice?

They have a low pressure fuel sensor. They are hidden away under the wheel well liner(left front on left hand drive models, should be the same on RHD models.). They don't fail as often as the N54/N63 sensors, but they do go bad. Essentially the pressure reading is off.

I have the same problem, just had a new clutch fitted as I've only had the car two months an previous owner had left it In bad shape, so replaced clutch but still have this same problem with fuel pressure at high RPM the light comes on but it doesn't actually power down, it used to do due to the clutch but it just brings the light up now!! Let me know if you get this problem sorted as mine also is a mystery
