E82 / E87 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by a naturaly aspirated inline 6 in the 128 or the turbo twin power inline 6 rocket sled 135.

RECALL BMW 1, 3, 5, 6, X3, X5, X6, and Z4

Who's received their 2010-2012 BMW Recall Campaign #14V-176 "VANOS Assembly Bolts" recall notice? Mine came in June. This safety recall applies to a "defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model Year 2010-12 BMW 1, 3, 5, 6 X3, X5 X6, and Z4 models." It involves the housing bolts of the variable camshaft timing (VANOS) adjustment unit. The bolts may possibly loosen over time and, under certain circumstances, may break. As a result, the reduced engine power "safe mode" may be activated. In some cases the engine cannot be started after switching off and less frequently it could stall which could lead to a crash.

You may want to check into this if your car isn't registered with BMW USA and they don't know who the current owner is.

Well at least you guys are getting a recall. In Canada we're getting an extended warranty but no recall. So rather than fix the problem they're rolling the dice with our engines. Once the warranty's over( 5 yrs. from now) you're on your own. Great way to inspire confidence in your product BMW.

I got mine in June too. Now where are those god damn bolts?

BTW, I noticed some guy had them replaced out of warranty, and the bill was $2,000. They only did one cam and had to go back in for the second - another $2,000.

What kind of company is this? We should mount a class action suit against this company for those lousy RFTs!

You know you can call BMW of North America and give them the last 7 of your VIN to verify your car is affected. I called them up via my dealer and had the service manager hear BMW of NA say my car was not affected, despite my protest to have the VANOS checked anyways. I documented the interaction so in case I have this issue... I can easily just go back and say it was neglect on BMW of NA and my dealership's problemo.
