I finally entered the world of M

I have been going back and forth for a while now between an M3 or an M5. I loved my 335. With the Cobb tune I had on it, I was SHOCKED at the cars that thing would dust. One hell of an engine the folks across the pond dropped in that thing. Anyways, no matter what mods I made to it I just kept telling myself "I want an M". I finally found a beauty. Jerez Black with black interior E90 6 speed M3. I'm in love with it. I made sure to get the extended warranty 36/36,000. I just wanted to make a quick post about the new acquisition. First manual car I've owned in over 10 years and I forgot how fun it is to drive. The M3 is such a beast. Cornering, steering, raw power....I'm in love.

Had 20% tints thrown on her all around 18 hours after purchase haha. Thinking Xpipe first???

BTW why can't I post pictures from Picasa?

Congrats on your new purchase! I have been considering test driving the M3 just to see what I am missing.

I cannot tell you why you aren't able to post pictures from Picasa but you can post them the way I do. Attach the imagoes, insert them into the text field, right click image and open in new tab, copy URL, then insert image from URL and remove the attached image from the text field. When you just attach an image it is small and members will have to click on it to see the full size image. When you insert an image from a URL it is full size.

Hello RedDevil...I, as well, have been feeling the inescapable pull of the mighty M3. I am about 18 months away from starting to look...I wish you all the best in your new car!

What all else did you have done to your 335, just a cobb?

So, what do you think about your new M3 compared to your 335 in 0-60?

Not being designed for 0-60, M3 fares well 30-120+, she pulls and pulls.

Congratulations! 6MT is not only durable but extremely smooth in the M3.

I *think* Picasa needs an auth code to view, but it's been a while since I used it to link an image.

No offense, but I was asking hte OP since he was coming from a Cobb 335 to an m3.

0-60 is extremely important to me; I could care less about an m3 beating mine on a track, i'll never run it on a track so it means nothing.

Congrats on the M3 purchase! Sounds like a common theme. I have a 335xi with Dinan tune and have always been impressed, but still longing for an M3. Test drove one with DCT and owner - which was a pretty useless test drive and then got a chance to take out a 08 M5 SMG that really impressed me. So far I've come to the conclusion the M3 will be a lot cheaper to own. Insurance on the M3 is around the same as my 335 and insurance on the M5 was over double what I currently pay! Not to mention extremely expensive repairs all over the M5 board.

I'm pretty comfortable with my penis size, but I'd still be very interested to hear what you think about the acceleration and overall performance differences between the two cars you have owned.

Top two complaints I hear from local M3 owners:
1) Fuel expense. (Real-world fuel economy is about 2/3rds that of a 335i.)
2) Repair/maintenance expense. (Example, front brake pads & rotors: 335i, ~$400; M3, ~$700.)

Granted, they are not complaining loudly enough to ditch the cars , but "cheaper to own" is not a usual justification for hanging on to them.

Edit: Oh wait, you meant cheaper than the V10 M5, not your current ride. Measured against that benchmark, yes, the M3 is a bargain!

Right... sorry if I wasn't clear. I do get the higher than a 335 expense, but I did mean M5 vs M3.

Maybe all M cars are "M"ore expensive but the M5 seemed to be quite lofty.

Oh yes.
It doesn't help that there are--quite literally--only a handful of people on the planet who truly qualify as experts on the S85 engine. (It is essentially a barely-detuned race engine.)
You may find them going for $30,000 or so but the car sure remembers it cost $100,000+ when new!

Congrats on your move to an M. You are probably realizing that the difference is in the complete package, not just in some statistics. I run a manual also. Great car!

True dat..

Test driving an old ragged out 08 V10 M5 last week was still a very memorable experience. The only other thing that sticks out was the first time I had a chance to drive a brand new dealer demo 2004 e46 M3... big sigh.

I have been trying to put the brakes on my M purchase but I'm afraid I'm in deep.
