RPM "jumping" up and down

Hi all,

I sometimes experience a weird problem with my automatic 2011 328i. The RPM dial weirdly "jumps" up and down from 500 to 700 RPM, and kind of starts shaking.

I recorded it earlier today as you can see in this link.

This mostly occurs weirdly on this road not to far from my house. I am usually at a red light. The road is a little bit of an incline. Has anyone experienced this or heard about it? Might it be that my oil temperature might be low?

Check 'em anyway - some faults are in memory but don't show in the dash.

Clean that MAF, Mr. N52....

A 'surging' idle with roughness is often indicative of a vacuum break somewhere. It could be a gasket in need of replacement, it could be a crack in something like a (plastic) valve cover or hose. A competent service guy may need to 'smoke' and engine to determine the source of the leak.

Can this effect the engine/car in any way long term? I'm still under warranty, thinking of taking it in to them to look at it.

Dealer couldn't recreate or identify the issue. It did get better over time...havent' had it happen in months. I will occasionally feel a dip in RPM when idling in traffic though.
